Doha Secondary School wins the Tree Contest


Doha, May 3 2016: the Qur'anic Botanic Garden, member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, concluded in collaboration with Ali bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani Secondary Independent School for Boys, the first cultural competition conducted on the book "Trees: their importance and care from environmental and ethical perspectives"


The competition was held this morning Tuesday among 12 teams and 10 participating secondary schools from all around Qatar. The competition aims to enhance the reading skills among high school students, as well as to promote the spirit of fair competition among school students. This competition was held in the context of the Qur'anic Botanic Garden celebration of the Global Earth Week as to confront the current environmental challenges, especially the issue of climate change and desertification as well as to raise the public awareness about the present environmental issues, in line with the fourth pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030.


The “Trees” book revolves on several axes; most importantly the definition of the Tree linguistically and scientifically, and the pronouncement of "Trees" and plant’s life in the Holy Qur’an and Hadith. It, also, highlights the importance of the trees stand in our daily lives and their virtual anatomical structure along with the illustration of how to grow them and their importance in the life of the individual and society.


The Tree Contest was held between schools on a league system with the participation of 4 judges from the Qur'anic Botanic Garden and the Scientific Research and Curriculum Department of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. Ali bin Abdullah Al Misnad Independent Secondary School for Boys met with Doha Independent Secondary School for Boys, where Doha Secondary School won the first place. At the closing ceremony, awards were presented along with appreciation certificates to the winning schools and participating teams.
