Reference in the Quran or Hadith

Abu-Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him, reported Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, as saying: “While a man was in the wilderness, he heard a voice in a cloud (commanding it thus): “Irrigate the garden of so-and-so,” so the cloud slinked aside and poured water on a stony ground. It filled a channel among the channels of that land. The man followed the water. He found a man standing in a garden, busy changing the course of water with the help of his spade. He said to him: “O servant of Allah, what is your name?” The man said: “So-and-so (the name the other man heard in the cloud)”, and he said to him: “O servant of Allah, why do you ask me my name?” He said: “I heard a voice in the cloud from which this rain poured, say: “Irrigate the garden of so-and-so -your name. What do you do in your garden?” He said: “Now as you say so, I look what yield I get from it; I give one-third as charity; I and my children feed on one-third; and one-third I return to it as investment.” (Sahih Muslim)
