QF member hosts tree-planting ceremony at Qatar National Library

Qur’anic Botanic Garden (QBG), a member of Qatar Foundation, today marked the upcoming Qatar Environment Day 2019 by organizing a tree-planting ceremony at Qatar National Library (QNL) in Education City.
The event, organized through QBG’s popular ‘Ghars’ campaign and in collaboration with QNL, brought together more than 150 visitors from around the country – including students, QNL staff, Filipino Planning Engineers Association representatives, and Qatari Youth Climate Action Movement members – to plant 40 trees.

Fatima Saleh al-Khulaifi, Manager, QBG, said: “We’re delighted to have planted 40 trees in honor of Qatar Environment Day 2019. The aim of QBG’s community events, including the popular ‘Ghars’ campaign, is to increase the level of environmental awareness in our society.”

Gihan Mohsen Baraka, Communications Manager, QNL, said: “The campaign gave the library’s visitors a chance to learn about green practices, and how to make Qatar greener by planting one tree each. Such activities provide a new experience for our visitors, and we are glad that it has been a remarkable success.
“We encourage everyone to visit the library, and use our online and physical resources to learn about environmental sustainability.”

The event also provided educational advice to participants on the conservation, care, and preservation of trees, especially in regions with dry, hot climates where trees help mitigate climate change and combat desertification.
The ‘Ghars’ campaign is designed to raise environmental awareness, and was launched following the United Nations’ ‘Billion Tree Campaign’. QBG’s regular tree-planting ceremonies aim to provide community members with the opportunity to contribute to QBG’s goal of planting 2022 trees in Qatar by the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™.
