Food Security Program

QBG runs a unique educational program aimed at giving scientific and practical skills to high school students, allowing them to lead self-sufficiency initiatives for the Qatari community. Students are made aware of the importance of food security in Qatar and motivated to participate in State-led efforts to meet the needs of society for sustainable agricultural products, thereby helping today’s youth to become tomorrow’s leaders.‎‎‎

‎‎‎The program motivates participants to study agricultural subjects, by providing in-depth knowledge about the various contemporary methods and approaches to arable farming in Qatar. On the one hand, students learn how farmers overcome environmental challenges in Qatar, and on the other hand, participants are encouraged to focus on this vital sector.‎‎‎

‎‎‎The program is in line with the implementation of the high directives on food security, which were cited by His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar. His Highness directed the entire community spectrum – including businessmen, investors, and government sectors – to join together in order to diversify sources of income and increase the pace of food security projects, as well as to enlarge agricultural areas.‎‎‎

School Competition on Food Security

  • ‎‎‎QBG organizes a competition among Qatar’s schools to recognize the most outstanding student as part of its educational program on food security. Participating schools compete to present the most impressive Qatari agricultural product produced by their students. This competition allows participants to utilize the simplified technical knowledge and information acquired during their participation in the QBG Food Security Program.‎‎‎ ‎‎‎The top three participating schools are selected based on competition criteria.‎‎‎ ‎Student creativity in planting management ‎‎is taken into account, reflecting positively on the quality of the products submitted.‎‎‎
  • ‎‎‎This competition gives students the opportunity to learn about the challenges of agricultural production in Qatar, and to adopt ways to overcome them by taking advantage of the technical support provided by QBG.‎‎‎ ‎‎‎The competition stimulates students’ creativity, by creating models from farms in their schools to contribute to meeting the community’s need for fresh agricultural products.‎‎‎ ‎The competition helps to build participants’ skills, especially in the field of agricultural production, thereby supporting the State’s efforts to achieve self-sufficiency.‎‎‎
