Olive is an evergreen tree.
Olive trees are widely cultivated in the countries of the Mediterranean basin. Its original habitat was probably in the East Mediterranean region.
Zaytun "olive" appears in six verses in the Holy Qur’an. Allah the Most Sublime describes the Zaytun tree as a blessed tree. Allah the Most Sublime says: “Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The Parable of His Light is as (if there were) a Niche and within it a Lamp: the Lamp enclosed in Glass: the glass as it were a brilliant star, Lit from a blessed Tree, an Olive, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil is well-nigh luminous, though fire scarce touched it: Light upon Light! Allah doth guide whom He will to His Light: Allah doth set forth Parables for men: and Allah is the All-Knower of everything.” Surat An-Noor, Verse# 35
Narrated by Abu Huraira: I heard Allah’s Apostle “Eat the Zait (olive oil) and use it as an ointment, because it is produced by a blessed tree (olive tree)” Sunan At-Tirmidh, book of the foods.
