Qur’anic Botanic Garden honors the winners ” of the Contest of the plants of the Holy Qur’an and Hadith”

The Qur’anic Botanic Garden (QBG) , member Qatar Foundation for education, science and community development, has concluded the first edition of its Plant Contest of the Holy Qur’an and Hadith with the participation of 16 independent secondary schools operating under the umbrella of the Ministry of education and higher education. The Plant Contest of the Holy Qur’an and Hadith comes within the activities of the QBG’s educational program ” the Young Botanist” that aims to prepare a responsible generation of students capable of withstanding environmental and ethical responsibility towards natural resources and cultural heritage.

In an atmosphere of enthusiasm and interaction, final round of thr plant contest of the plants of the Holy Qur’an and the Hadith, has been held in the Student Center, at Hamad Bin Khalifa university between “Hassan ibn Thabit independent secondary school for boys,” and “high school girls” AlShymaa independent secondary school for girls, where both teams deserved to reach the final round. (name of the school) has got the first place of the plant contest for the academic year 2016-2017.

The plant contest began in early February 2016, among high school students about the plants mentioned in the Qur’an and Hadith, that have been listed in the illustrated book of the plants of the Qur’anic Botanic Garden, which is the first book of its kind featuring plants mentioned in the Holy Quran and Hadith in one folder. The contest forms part of a joint collaboration between the Qur’anic Botanic Garden and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, where Sixteen independent high schools participated in the competition.

In the lead up to the competition, the Qur’anic Botanic Garden hosted 6 educational workshops to highlight plants description, geographical zones and ethics and stories behind the plants . Students also attended field visits the Qatar Foundation Nursery and QBG seeds lab that enabled them to gain a better understanding of the scientific terms of the various plants.

Ms Fatima bint Saleh Al-Khulaifi, Project manager of the Qur’anic Botanic Garden said “ the contest of the plants of the Holy Qur’an and Hadith seeks to increase awareness of plant species mentioned in the Holy Quran and Sunnah, it is also promotes the spirit of fair competition among school students, enrich public culture and heritage and cultural information about matters relating to plants. She added: We proud of the level reached by our sons and daughters in this contest, who already qualify for being able to carry the QBG’s message in identification of the plants not only within their schools, but also for their families and all of society.
