Typha domingensis Pers.
Cattail is an aquatic, perennial rhizomatous herb used to make the straw mats.
Typha are considered to be dominant competitors in wetlands in many areas; it grows near rivers bonds and lakes at the Middle east and Africa. The straw mat may be made of deferent plants e.g. fronds of the date palm and Cattail plant where it grows in Madinah.
The plant is not mentioned in the Holy Qur’an.
Narrated by Abu Hazim: Sahl bin Sa’d As-Sa’idi, was asked by the people, “With what was the wound of the Prophet treated? Sahl replied, “None remains among the people living who knows that better than I. ‘Ah used to bring water in his shield and Fatima used to wash the blood off his face. Then straw mat was burnt and the wound was filled with it.” Sahih Al Bukhari, book of ablution.
