The Role of Plant Conservation in Enhancing Biodiversity and Environmental Preservation

About the Forum

The Third International Forum of the Qur’anic Botanic Garden will be held on February 25, 2025, coinciding with Qatar Environment Day. It will be held under the title “The Role of Plant Conservation in Enhancing Biodiversity and Environmental Preservation” and feature the participation of renowned local and international experts. They will engage in comprehensive discussions covering contemporary topics as well as opportunities in the field of biodiversity and environmental conservation. The forum will be held with simultaneous live interpretation in both Arabic and English.

In light of the growing environmental challenges facing our planet, this forum is an ideal opportunity to explore how we can collectively protect the environment and raise awareness about the importance of plant conservation. Plants are the lifeblood of our planet’s natural ecosystems, as they maintain food webs for living organisms, preserve soil fertility, and mitigate the impact of climate change. This forum’s agenda is based on an innovative vision that combines scientific principles, modern techniques, and ethics in the sustainability of biodiversity.

Conservation and Collaboration for Biodiversity Protection

The forum discusses ways to integrate innovation into conservation strategies, focusing on developing effective techniques to enhance biodiversity. The forum highlights the role of plant conservation – particularly as a result of collaborations between local and international institutions – in finding scientific and ethical solutions that ensure comprehensive environmental sustainability. Through these efforts, the forum seeks to achieve a more sustainable and secure future for future generations, focusing on conserving wild plant environments and minimizing the risks and threats they face.

Objectives

  • Strengthen the global response to protect biodiversity:
Encourage cooperation between local and international organizations to address global challenges related to biodiversity threats and environmental degradation in pursuit of sustainable environmental development.
  • Examine the legislation and ethics of protecting the environment from threats:
Highlight modern threats to the environment, including habitat destruction and climate change, and promote the implementation of legislation and adherence to ethical principles in order to protect biodiversity, including plant life.
  • Discuss the impact of invasive plants:
Outline the impact of non-native plants on wildlife, which may lead to reduced quality of habitats and food webs, undermining ecological balance.
  • Emphasize the role of conservation organizations:
Explore institutions’ ongoing efforts to protect biodiversity, including efforts to restore degraded ecosystems by reintroducing native plant species and operating specialized centers and gene banks to sustain their conservation.
  • Support the role of scientific research in biodiversity conservation:
Share applied knowledge and innovative practices to find scientific solutions towards enhancing biodiversity.
  • Raise community awareness of the importance of plant preservation:
Underline plants’ crucial role in supporting biodiversity and its sustainability through community campaigns and educational programs on the environmental, cultural, and economic value of vegetation.
  • Encourage new sustainable environmental initiatives:
Support community initiatives that promote ecological conservation and preservation.
