Black cumin is an annual grass. Its place of origin is South and South West of Asia, yet it is now one of the most important crops in several places around the world. Black cumin seeds are the effective part of the plant used for the many useful substances they contain like essential and fat oils and vitamins.
Reference in the Quran or Hadith
Black cumin seeds are mentioned in hadiths of Prophet Muhammad related to istisqa’ (praying for rain to come down), as in this one reported on the authority of Abu-Hurairah: “I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, say that black cumin seeds are a cure for every ailment except death.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari, The Book of Medicine)
