Reference in the Quran or Hadith

The word raihan is mentioned in the Glorious Quran in the following words of Allah Almighty: “its husked grain, its raihan.” [Al-Rahman: 12] Raihan is explained in many ways; It can mean the leaves of the plant or the well-known fragrant plant (sweet basil). Raihan is used to draw a parallel in the following honorable hadith reported on the authority of Abu-Musa Al-Ash’ari: “The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “The example of a hypocrite who recites the Quran is like raihan (sweet basil) that smells good but tastes bitter.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)
