Event organized on sidelines of the Middle School Model United Nations – Qatar

The Qur’anic Botanic Garden (QBG), a member of Qatar Foundation, recently hosted a desert restoration day event in the north of Qatar to mark Earth Day, which takes place every year on April 22.
The one-day event was held as part of the Middle School Model United Nations – Qatar (MSMUN-Q) conference that took place from April 19-20, which served as an opportunity for participants to discuss the UN Sustainable Development Goals, including those focusing on climate action, life on land, and quality education.

Nearly 80 students from the UK, Germany, Bangladesh, Japan and Qatar who attended MSMUN-Q participated in the desert restoration event, which saw 120 native trees rehabilitated in Asat Al Raei. They also explored the indigenous flora and fauna of Qatar, learning about various birds, insects and mammals, and the importance of conserving the ecosystem.
The desert restoration day event was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Friends of the Environment Center, and THIMUN Qatar. It was part of a wider conservation program designed by QBG to restore and rehabilitate desert plants in their natural habitat, and aims to help to combat desertification while engaging the community.
