Monkey’s Hasak

Category :

Botanical term

A generic term for all the spiny, round fruits of the desert terrestrial annuals.‎‎‎ This type of thorn fruit gets stuck to cattle hair, human feet, or soles while walking alongside it.‎‎‎ When it is said the farm has hasaked, means its thorns have grown. Most of these types of plants that contain thorns are creeping plants whose branches extend across the ground. Monkey thorn trees (Sa’adan) are circular thorns with a smooth surface on which the thorn rests.

Reference in the Quran or Hadith

Hasak was mentioned in the noble Prophet’s hadith. The Messenger of Allah said: “The Sirat will be placed across Hell, on thorns like the thorns of Sa’dan plant.* Then the people will cross it. Some will pass over safe and sound, some will be detained, and some will fall in headfirst.” (Sunan Ibn Majah).
