The olive tree is one of the oldest trees humans ever knew. It is a blessed tree as Allah says in the Glorious Quran. It can live for hundreds of years and can grow up to 5-12 meters long. It is a generous tree; olives become immediately edible when they ripen. From olives we extract oil, and wood of the olive tree is good for making brushes and sticks. Olive trees have a dense shade, and they symbolize peace universally.

Reference in the Quran or Hadith

The Quran does not only mention the word “olive”, but other words relevant to olive are mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah, like “oil” and “fat”. In Sunan Al-Tirmidhi, The Book of Foods, Chapter: What Is Reported about Feeding on Oil, this hadith is reported on the authority of Omar ibnul-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: “The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Use olive oil as food and anoint yourselves with it, for it is from a blessed tree.”Olive is mentioned six times in the Glorious Quran. Allah Almighty describes the olive tree as a blessed tree, as He says: “God is the Light of the heavens and earth. His Light is like this: there is a niche, and in it a lamp, the lamp inside a glass, a glass like a glittering star, fueled from a blessed olive tree from neither east nor west, whose oil almost gives light even when no fire touches it– light upon light– God guides whoever He will to his Light; God
draws such comparisons for people; God has full knowledge of everything.” [Al-Nur: 35]
